CONSTRUCTION: Hurricane Sandy—Emergency Power Restoration

Hurricane Sandy was one of the largest most damaging storms in our nation’s history. I was hired to photograph several emergency crews working to restore power in the lower Hudson Valley and on Long Island over several days in the aftermath of the storm. This post’s images highlight those efforts.

Over eight million homes were left without power in the wake of Hurricane Sandy along with and estimated 25 billion in lost revenue for businesses. Tens of thousands of linemen, utility workers, and electricians were dispatched from across the country to help restore power and repair damage in New York State alone. Each of the crews I followed worked 16 to 17 hour shifts, seven days a week.
